RallyGrow Series | Skill #8: Integrity

Do what you say. Say what you mean. Own what happens.
Integrity is one of those values that shows up on almost every wall or company website, but in practice, it often gets watered down or misunderstood.
Integrity is part of the Navigate Your Path module in the RallyGrow course. It’s about alignment between what you believe, what you say, and how you act. When those things are in sync, trust builds. When they’re not, trust erodes.
Definitions
We define integrity through four powerful components. Together, they form the foundation of this skill.
- The first is Responsibility. Taking responsibility for your actions, choices, and impact is a cornerstone of integrity. It’s not about blame. It’s about ownership. Leaders who own their impact, even when things don’t go as planned, build credibility and trust.
- The second is Candor. Speaking truthfully and directly, even when it’s uncomfortable, is part of living in integrity. When you withhold or sugarcoat what matters, small misalignments grow into big misunderstandings.
- The third is Alignment with purpose and values. When your actions reflect what you believe and why you’re here, people can feel it. And so can you. That alignment creates consistency and clarity. This doesn’t mean perfection, but a sense that you’re living from a place of intention.
- The fourth is Clear agreements. This one often gets overlooked, but it’s essential. Integrity isn’t just about doing what’s right in theory. It’s about being specific in practice.
Clear Agreements
A clear agreement means everyone knows what’s being done, who’s doing it, and by when. And it’s written down so it can be tracked. That may sound simple, but it’s rare. Most breakdowns in trust come from fuzzy or unspoken expectations.
Clear agreements have four components:
- The What: what is going to be done?
- The Who: who is going to do it?
- The When: by when will this thing be done?
- Document the agreement so you can track its completion.
When these are clear, there’s less room for confusion and more room for accountability.
Integrity Leaks
Of course, even with the best intentions, things fall through. That’s where integrity leaks come in. These are the small (or not-so-small) moments when you’re out of alignment. You miss a deadline. You say yes but don’t follow through.
We don’t judge integrity leaks. We expect them. The real question is: how do you clean them up?
Here’s the process we share, adapted from the Conscious Leadership Group.
- First, acknowledge the leak. Don’t deflect or hide. Just name it.
- Second, communicate openly. Let the other person know where things stand.
- Third, renegotiate the terms. Maybe the deadline needs to shift or the scope needs to change.
- Fourth, make a new commitment. Be specific and realistic.
- And fifth, follow through. That’s what restores trust.
When you treat integrity as a living system that you maintain and repair instead of something you either have or don’t, you give yourself and others more room to grow.
