Black and white portrait of John Trinquero - Director - Rallyday Partners

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Annual ski trips to Utah with my family! Growing up in Georgia we obviously didn’t have very much skiing nearby, so it was always an exciting time to head out west in the winter and ski a real mountain.

What has been your most defining life experience?

As a young college kid, I made the tough choice to accept an unpaid summer internship with a small, no-name firm in the profession I was interested in rather than a top-paying internship with a Fortune 500 company in a corporate role that was less desirable for me as a full-time job. It was a tough financial decision at the time, but it ended up paying huge benefits for me professionally as I gained an incredible amount of relevant experience that ultimately helped me get where I am today.

What has been your toughest life experience?

Shortly after starting my first job out of college, I began recruiting for a job in private equity. I found myself in a highly competitive job market with an education pedigree that was well below most of my competition. It was really tough to try and prove myself & stand out, and I probably was unsuccessful interviewing with over 15 different firms before I finally landed the job I was looking for. It definitely took a lot of determination to keep trying despite all the failures, and I think it ultimately made me not just a better candidate, but a stronger person, by the time it was all over.

What do you believe to be the most important leadership skill?

INTEGRITY. Before success comes trust, and without integrity, there is no trust. “With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt.” – Zig Ziglar

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Becoming an Eagle Scout. It’s a rank only 2% of all Boy Scouts reach, and it takes an incredible amount of hard work and determination, particularly at an age when you’re not exactly winning any popularity contests with your peers along the way. Looking back though, few things teach you so much about leadership, teamwork and integrity at such a young age.
